This is a stunning antique Japanese Tetsubin Cast Iron Teapot in dark brown. The company it is from is called Nanbu Shoundo. This particular tetsubin features incredible texture showcasing kiku (chrysanthemum) ume (plum blossom) also take (bamboo). The lid is also adorned with kiku and a flower bud making it easy and beautiful to open.  There is a metal filter inside to hold the green tea. 

 

Special Features:
Makers mark near the spout
The original paperwork is inside which gives the directions on how to care for the teapot. 


Translated, it says:
Do not Wash
Wipe with a damp cloth when on the fire
Dry with a towel after use


History:
These cast iron teapots date back to the 17th century in Japan. Not only are they beautiful but they served a very practical purpose in durability and heat retention for tea making.
