Description:
This is a vintage Japanese Koinobori. It dates back to pre-WWII. It is 100% cotton.
Koinobori (鯉のぼり) means 'carp streamer' in Japanese. They are carp-shaped windsocks that are traditionally hung outside and flown to celebrate Tango no sekku (端午の節句), a traditional calendrical event which is now designated as Children's Day.
Koi (carp) are significant as they swim upstream which shows the strength of character, perseverance, accomplishment and courage.

17 feet / 4.4 meter
Condition: Good
Ink Bleeds, a few holes and age discoloration stains are evident. The bamboo for the mouth is broken. The fins at the end are a bit frayed. Please see additional images.
All items come directly from Japan and are carefully gift wrapped using vintage Japanese kimono material.
